The Taiji Symbol

This symbol describes the opposing yet interdependent, gradual increase and decrease, mutual nourishment and restraint, and interaction of two energies, which causes everything to happen in the transformational nature of all things in the universe. Mutual nourishment and restraint cycles interact with each other and are closely related in order to keep each other in check and in balance. We are constantly involved in a process of receiving and giving, which we need to be aware of in order to feel balanced and well.
The big circle represents the whole Universe. The curvature within the circle symbolizes the opposing yet interdependent nature of yin and yang energy. The black (Yin, feminine energy) and the white (Yang, masculine energy) tear drop shapes symbolize the decreasing and increasing of Yin and Yang, as well as the transformation of Yin and Yang energy in all experiences.
We see dark with light, positivity with negativity, cold with warm, introverted with extroverted, female with male, day and night, high and low, fullness and emptiness, spiritual and mundane, etc. All such polarities are illusory within the light of unity. All is one.
At the highest concentration of Yang (white) there is a black dot, and at the highest concentration of Yin (black) there is a white dot. They are not only interdependent, but there are subdivisions within Yin and within Yang. The difference between light and dark is by degree only. There is no light without darkness and no darkness without light. Light and dark energies balance, and are complimentary. Feminine attributes balance with masculine attributes. There are subtle differences between our body’s left and right side. The feminine side is governed by intuition, feelings, openness, receptivity, nurturing, flow, sharing, patience, loving, affections, etc... The masculine side is characterized by logic, facts, self-interest, freedom, logic, focus, integrity, independence, stability, confidence, direction, discipline, etc...Maintaining harmony between the two creates wholeness. Listening to our felt senses and our bodies, maintaining harmony between the two sides bring our system in equilibrium. Like the philosophy of the Yin (feminine) and the yang (masculine), one can’t exist without the other and the ideal is when these two are in balance within us.
Qi Gong: The ancient Chinese practice of circulating energy in the body that helps improve health, reduce stress, increase concentration, and become a better recipient of our connection to universal energy.
Qi(Chi): Energy which fills the body and the universe.
Gong: Training of energy (life force)
Qi Gong practices train and help to regulate the body, the breath, the voice, and the mind. The slow motions of sitting, standing or moving, help to increase energy circulation and balance of the yin (feminine energy of feelings, intuition, openness, giving nature, selflessness), and yang (masculine energy of logic, fact systems, independence, strength within, etc).
Breathing training: Helps increase our oxygen, concentration, reduce our scattered thoughts, and promote balance.
Training with sounds: Reduces stress, helps maintain health. Some sounds, chants and mantras have mystical connections with the universe.
